Based in London, João leads HCL global Data Protection initiatives. He is responsible for enhancing a culture of strong respect for data protection in an organization with more than 110,000 employees across the globe, operating mainly on the technology sector. Prior to joining HCL, Joao was the Data Privacy Legal Advisor of Celgene in Switzerland. At the international headquarters of this American biopharmaceutical company, João provided privacy counsel to Celgene affiliates in EMEA-APAC and led the execution of a global privacy program.
João also provided legal counsel on privacy and information technology in IBM (Ireland), the European Medicines Agency (London), the Portuguese Ministry of Health and law firms. Besides a law degree and a qualified attorney, he has postgraduate qualifications in IP and Pharma Law. Joao has been a guest speaker at universities and multiple privacy symposiums. He has also had several articles published in law journals.
