Tom Gilb is described by most all of the Agile Manifesto signatories as the ‘Grandfather of Agile’, and that he is decades ahead of them with advanced practices, even today. His 1988 book ‘Principles of Software Engineering Management’ is their cornerstone reference. The book was crystal clear and detailed about quantified value and quality delivery in practice. But iteration-of-code rather than iteration-of value was the unfortunate interpretation. Are we mature enough to go for real value now?
